FUTURE PROJECTS

  • Five-a-side tournament

  • We are considering running a free football tournament, possibly based on the Parks Estate in the early summer. Details are still being worked out; please let us know if you are both interested and available to help out.  You may either have an interest in football and would like to help referee etc or help with administration, refreshments or first aid on the day.

Contact details for this project may change, but for now simply register your interest with Helen & Gareth at ggandhg@aol.com.

  • Dream Scheme

Work = Points = Trips… this is what a Dream Scheme is all about.

Hope for Belper are teaming up with Amber Valley Housing, Derwent Living, the local Police Neighbourhood Team and others to offer youngsters an opportunity to achieve something really worthwhile in their community this summer.

A number of project options are being considered and a newly formed management committee for this particular project has begun the project planning.

The first parnership meeting was held on the 6th May and an introductory session for volunteers has taken place - but dont worry, there’s plenty of time yet to get involved.

If you have a desire to work positively with young teenagers and aren’t afraid of rolling your sleeves up and mucking in, then this project could be for you.

The Dream Scheme will run from 11th August to the 15th August and is likely to be centred on the Whitemooe Lane / Gregorys Way estate.

The current daily timings being considered are 1pm to 7pm each day with a tea-time break.

If you would like to volunteer for any of the days or would simply like to find out more, then contact Gareth & Helen on 01773 823418.

    COMPLETED PROJECTS

  • A Cup of Kindness, 1st January

  • To start the year in the spirit in which we mean to carry on, we helped wish Belper a Happy New Year by handing out cups of hot chocolate in the Market Place! For a full report of the event, see Hot Chocolate Surprise.

  • Litter pick, 1st March

  • Around 30 young people gathered on the Three Cornered Rec, Laund Nook to spend the morning making Belper a cleaner and tidier place to live in. For a full report of the event, see Litter pickers have got it in the bag.

  • Walk of Witness/Manchester Passion, 21st March

  • Members of the Hope 08 team handed out Easter Eggs to townsfolk during the annual Good Friday Walk of Witness organised by the churches before staging a showing of the Manchester Passion at the Salvation Army Hall. Later some hot drinks were handed out to local shoppers and shopkeepers as a further small act of service. More details at Hope at Eastertide.

  • Evan Almighty, 5th April

With the help of local primary schools, around 100 children were treated to a free afternoon out at the Rizt Cinema in Belper to see the film Evan Almighty. More about this event at Putting on the Ritz.
