ONGOING PROJECTS

The Basic Idea

A project inspired by the credit crunch and the knowledge that many more of our neighbours around us will be experiencing difficult financial transitions.

You shop and buy an extra item – you drop it in the bin at your local church – the Champion arranges delivery to the central store – items are managed and sorted and packed in to boxes – referrals are received and passed on to deliverers – three days worth of food and household items are received by an individual, couple or family in acute financial need.

The funding application to Derwent Living’s ‘Brighter Communities Fund’ has been successful allowing us to move forward with kitting out the central store.

Folks are beginning to come forward to act as church champions and we currently have the two referral coordinators we required and also have three deliverers.

The capacity of this project is likely to increase as we review after 3 and 6 months, but for now small is beautiful and we are keen to see ‘The Basic Idea’ establish itself and grow as resources permit and as the need becomes clear.

Hope Cafe

Hope Cafe was launched as a separate initiative by the Salvation Army but is being supported by Hope for Belper. It meets from 7-9pm on Sunday evenings in the Salvation Army Hall on Belper Market Place and offers a varied “menu” of music, quizzes, snacks, discussion and a short talk.
